Atalanta are preparing a €12m bid to bring Italy winger Federico Chiesa back to Serie A. With Liverpool willing to pay most of his wages to make the deal happen.

Chiesa is not in Liverpool’s plans for the new season and was not name in the squad for the Asian tour. Which includes a friendly against AC Milan in Hong Kong and Yokohama F Marinos in Japan.

Atalanta could offer Chiesa a three-year contract. With Liverpool likely to shoulder part of his wage bill if the deal goes through to give him more playing time in Italy.

Napoli and AC Milan are the other two Serie A teams that are also keeping a close eye on Chiesa’s situation.

Now, however, sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Atalanta are stepping up their interest in the 27-year-old.

One source told us: “Chiesa has not been include in Arne Slot’s pre-season training camp. Asign that Liverpool want to part ways with him as soon as possible.”

The source added: “Atalanta are interested and are preparing to discuss an initial loan.”
